Joseph "Joey" Massino is a former organized crime boss in the United States. He was born on January 10, 1943, in Queens, New York City. He was the head of the Bonanno crime family from the early 1990s until his arrest in 2003. Massino was known for his ruthless tactics and was responsible for ordering many murders.
Massino was involved in criminal activities from a young age. He joined the Bonanno crime family in the 1970s and rose through the ranks to become a capo, or captain, in the 1980s. He became the boss of the family after the previous boss, Philip Rastelli, went to prison.
Massino was involved in many criminal activities, including drug trafficking, extortion, and money laundering. He was also responsible for many murders, including the killing of three rival mobsters in 1981. His reputation for violence and intimidation made him one of the most feared organized crime bosses in the country.
In 2003, Massino was arrested and charged with numerous crimes, including murder, racketeering, and money laundering. He was convicted on all charges and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He later became a government informant and testified against other members of the Bonanno crime family.
